Brett
Kaysen was born in Denver, CO and raised east of Brighton,
CO. While growing up, Brett was an active 4-H member and
successfully competed in livestock shows at many levels
and in many events.
While attending middle school, Brett took an interest
in livestock judging and competed at several youth contests
around the state of Colorado as well as on a National
level. Brett continued to participate on livestock judging
teams throughout his undergraduate career at Northeastern
Junior College and Colorado State University where he
majored in Animal Sciences and earned a bachelors degree
in 1997. Brett was a member of a Reserve National Champion
Livestock Judging Team while pursuing his undergraduate
degree. Brett continued his education at CSU earning a
Master’s degree in Cooperative Extension and Education
in 2003. Brett is currently working on his Ph.D. degree
at Colorado State University.
Brett joined the Department of Animal Sciences during
the spring of 1998. Brett managed the university beef,
swine and sheep units at the university farm. The diverse

diversify his education, two traits Brett considered very
important as an educator of Animal Sciences.
Currently, Brett’s staff position with CSU’s
Department of Animal Sciences is Extension Youth Livestock
Specialist, and is composed of 50% teaching and 50% extension.

The
Indiana Alpaca Association (IAA) invites you to attend
an informative seminar and hands-on lab given by Dr. Cheryl
DeWitt of Camelid Reproductive Services in Findlay Ohio.
The morning lecture will cover reproductive anatomy and
physiology, breeding and pregnancy diagnosis options,
gestational development, care of the pregnant dam, normal
and abnormal criation and care of the newborn as well
as the high risk cria. The afternoon lab, using donated
dead crias and uterine simulators, will challenge registrants
to diagnose distocias (abnormal or difficult labor and
delivery), discuss a proposed delivery plan and deliver
the crias. The seminar is limited to 32 attendees and
is highly recommended for beginning and experienced alpaca
breeders alike.
Cheryl
DeWitt is an award winning graphic designer turned veterinarian.
She attended North Carolina State University for graduate
studies, and then relocated to Ohio to specialize in camelid
medicine with Dr. Toni Cotton. She spent four years learning
reproductive medicine under the guidance of Dr. Cotton.
Two years ago she partnered with Dr. Bravo, who literally
"wrote the book" on camelid reproductive care.
Cheryl,
with her husband Eric (the "Llamafeeder"), own
Llama Nation LLC in Bluffton, Ohio, which is currently
the repro and boarding center for Camelid Veterinary Services.
